What this site is
We write about land and building surveying for the stretch of Kent around the Thames at Gravesend. The aim is simple: explain what surveys do in language a property owner, developer or self-builder can follow, without needing a degree in geomatics first.
What we cover
Two strands run through the site. One is method — the surveys themselves and what each delivers.
- Topographical surveys that map a site before design begins
- Measured building surveys that capture a property as it actually stands
- 3D laser scanning and the point clouds it produces
- Setting out and engineering surveys on a live construction site
- Utility and GPR surveys for locating buried services
- Boundary surveys, Land Registry plans and disputes
The other strand is local. We've looked at Dartford's riverside and brownfield land, the development surveys around Northfleet and Ebbsfleet, Rochester's historic streets and listed buildings, Chatham's waterfront, and the ragstone and river ground around Maidstone.
How it's written
Answer first, jargon explained as it comes up, and honest about when a particular survey is overkill or not enough. We'd rather you understood the trade-offs than reached for the most expensive option by default.
Who it's for
Anyone facing a survey for the first time, and people who commission them often enough to want a clear reference. If something's missing or wrong, tell us at [email protected].
